As part of the Music Foundation Professorship, Anne Schürmer will develop teaching and research projects on contemporary music over the next three years at the Department of Musicology within the Institute of Theater Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, thereby enriching the Master’s program in Music, Sound, and Performance with new perspectives. Schürmer explores a broad spectrum of contemporary music, including electronic music, sound art, and club culture, and is also interested in questions of queerness in music and the significance of the use of artificial intelligence in music.

The inaugural lecture is open to the public and will take place under the title “ZUKUNFT(((s)))MUSIK, or: New Musicologies” on June 16, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the lecture hall of the Institute for Theater Studies.
