Registration for courses without participant limits

For courses with limited capacity – courses for which a maximum number of participants is defined – the following applies, regardless of whether they are held in person or online:

  1. Within the preference period, there is a deadline for submitting course preferences. All preferences submitted by that deadline are taken into account in the automatic allocation of places.
  2. During the preference period, places in capacity-restricted courses are therefore not booked immediately, but only allocated on the day of allocation.
  3. Participants in capacity-restricted courses will appear on instructors’ participant lists and in Blackboard only after the allocation has taken place.
  4. Your chances of obtaining a place in a capacity-restricted course do not depend on the time at which you register.
  5. IMPORTANT: However, in the case of courses offered in multiple parallel groups, your chances increase with the number of preferences you submit.
  6. For each specific course (course number), you may submit only one preference.

The allocation of places in courses with limited capacity will take place immediately after the end of the preference period.

Registration for courses without capacity restrictions

Further registrations and deregistrations during the remaining registration period after allocation (until the end of the period):

  1. Additional modules may still be registered for or deregistered from (deregistration is only possible if the module was not already registered in a previous semester).

  2. Direct registration for any remaining places in capacity-restricted courses is possible.

  3. Places allocated in capacity-restricted courses may be deregistered or rebooked, provided that capacity allows.

  4. The same applies to courses without capacity restrictions. Registration and deregistration are possible directly and until the end of the registration period.

Finally, we explicitly ask that you deregister from modules and courses in a timely manner if you decide not to attend them this semester. Otherwise, you may block places that fellow students might need.

Note

Please also regularly check the status of your registrations in the Web Registration system or in your grades and credits account. For example, if the designation “Cancelled:” appears in the course title, the course will not take place at short notice.

Please also use the online course catalog to find out whether a course takes place in person or online, and which requirements and conditions must be observed.

Furthermore, please note that some departments  (e. g. the Language Center) conduct their own allocation procedures for courses with limited capacity, which take place prior to and are binding for registration in the Campus Management System.

Special registration procedures

If you have special requirements for your timetable due to family or health reasons, a certain number of places in all capacity-restricted courses are reserved for this group of students.
Please contact your responsible student or examination office for more detailed information.

At the Dahlem School of Education (DSE), for organizational reasons, a special procedure with different registration deadlines applies to the Bachelor’s program in Primary Education, all LBW modules, and the Master’s teaching programs. You will be informed about this separately by the DSE.

Biology students: In all cases, please pay attention to the information provided by the Biology Student Office (http://www.bcp.fu-berlin.de/studium-lehre/verwaltung/studienbuero/studienbuero_biologie/verteilungen/index.html) as well as the notes in the course catalog.
