What defines good research? How can the quality of research and its results be assessed and sustained over the long term? For the Berlin University Alliance (BUA), research quality is both an institutional goal and a field of research. The four alliance partners aim to jointly strengthen the value, quality, integrity, and credibility of research.

Open Science-Stammtisch Berlin

The open-access.network is a collaborative project funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) that connects researchers, library staff, and other stakeholders nationwide. Its goal is to sustainably promote information sharing, collaboration, and capacity building regarding Open Access.

 

Goals & Tasks 

  • Providing centralized, interdisciplinary, and freely accessible information on Open Access
  • Connecting the existing Open Access community
  • Promoting skills development through training sessions, workshops, webinars, train-the-trainer programs, and barcamps
  • Providing support for practical, organizational, and legal questions related to Open Access

  • Moderated focus groups on key topics

The Open Research Office Berlin serves as the coordinating body for open science in Berlin. It is based at the University Library of Freie Universität Berlin and is supported by the Senate Department for Science, Health, and Care to assist Berlin’s scientific and cultural heritage institutions in implementing the goals of the Berlin Open Access Strategy. It serves as a central hub for consultation, networking, and the development of joint initiatives in the field of open research.

 

Tasks & Goals 

  • Coordinating exchanges within working groups of open access officers at universities, Charité, and higher education institutions under the responsibility of the State of Berlin
  • Promoting cross-institutional collaboration among stakeholders from scientific and cultural heritage institutions
  • Organizing events and networking formats in Berlin and Brandenburg, as well as at the national level through externally funded projects
  • Exchanging experiences and networking with initiatives in other federal states, including close cooperation with the Brandenburg Open Access Networking and Competence Center

Further Information 

The Open Science Working Group (OSWG) at Freie Universität consists of researchers, faculty members, students, and librarians who are interested in promoting the principles and values of open science and research. The group is looking for like-minded individuals from all disciplines and areas of the university to discuss practices, ideas, perspectives, news, and skills related to Open Science. Everyone is welcome!

 

Goals & Tasks

The OSWG is committed to opening up scientific practices and academic knowledge as keys to interdisciplinary collaboration and societal progress. It brings people together to promote access to, reuse of, and transparency in research.

  • Advocacy for Open Science/Research among local and international stakeholders

 

 Community & Services

The members of the Open Science Working Group meet every two months to discuss current topics in the field of open science and research, share updates on ongoing projects, and plan joint events. The group is open to new members and welcomes ideas for additional events and opportunities for collaboration.
