Mark your calendars > Sustainability in Higher Education Conference
From September 21 to 23, 2026 at Holzlaube Campus Dahlem, Berlin
News from Mar 31, 2026
The three-day international conference, "Sustainability in Higher Education: Between Transformation and Vibe-Shifts," takes an academic and practical approach to addressing the central question: What’s next when “transformation” becomes yesterday’s vibe?
Together with Prof. Dr. Katrin Böhning-Gaese, Scientific Director of the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research; Dr. Felix Matthes, Research Coordinator for Energy and Climate Policy at Öko-Institut; and numerous other experts and speakers, we will trace how the rhetoric of "transformation" has given way to more complex modes of negotiation, adaptation, and resilience.
Drawing on international academic and professional dialogue regarding shifting dynamics and overlapping crises, the workshops will develop concrete strategies to help researchers and higher education professionals continue to act in an increasingly skeptical environment while embedding sustainability in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer.
The conference is linked to the development of an edited volume that highlights international existing sustainability projects, reflects on their interactions, and discusses them in light of participatory negotiation processes.
Registration is now open, and we look forward to welcoming you.
