Keynote: Sustainability under Scrutiny – Rethinking the Role of Science Communication

After the opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Katrin Böhning-Gaese (UfZ) will give the keynote address on the topic "Sustainability under Scrutiny – Rethinking the Role of Science Communication" to officially open the conference, together with Dr. Felix Matthes (Oeko-Institut). She will also participate in the panel discussion that follows.
Professor Dr. Katrin Böhning-Gaese is the scientific director of the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research and a professor at the University of Leipzig. From 2010 to 2024, she was the director of the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Center. She is a biologist and a recipient of the German Environmental Award. Her research focuses on how climate and land use changes affect biodiversity and ecosystems and the role of biodiversity in human well-being. As a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, she engages in policy and social consulting.
