Online series

With its new online series “Promotion im Dialog” (Doctoral Studies in Dialogue), the Dahlem Research School (DRS) invites all stakeholders involved in doctoral education at Freie Universität Berlin to participate in an open exchange. The series offers brief presentations as well as space for discussion and the exchange of experiences. The aim is to highlight key topics related to doctoral research, explore common ground, and strengthen networking among the participants.

Other topics planned for the series: first-generation doctoral students, abuse of power, onboarding, doctoral conditions... Suggestions are welcome at any time via the mailing list.

The online session “Meet the Doctoral Council” will take place February 11, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. It will be hosted by the Doctoral Council and be held in English.

What is the Doctoral Council? What are the tasks of the doctoral representatives? What rights and influence does the Doctoral Council have? As the elected representatives of doctoral researchers our focus is to represent pre-docs’ interests and advocate for their needs to the university leadership and committees. Join our online session to learn who we are, what we do, and discuss topics like the current budget cuts, supervision standards, and overall student’s experience within the Freie Universität.
