Music as Theatre. Circulations between disciplines play a constant role in the life and death of art forms. One such circulation that has remained productively unsolved connects music and theatre, two disciplines that have historically shared common ground in ritual, narration, and ultimately desire to integrate other media. In this presentation as in his praxis, writer and stage director Aleksi Barrière investigates how performance of music constantly reaches outside of its assigned territory of ’sound as sound’, forming a fruitful platform for dialogue between arts and cultures.
Aleksi Barrière is a writer and stage director, whose music/theatre company La Chambre aux échos operates internationally across media, disciplines, and cultures. His librettos, that explore the new forms that new narratives crave, have been set to music by various composers and presented in opera houses and concert halls around the world. His recent publications include the annotated French translation of Heiner Goebbels’ writings.
